"Standing" For a Healing: Are we leading people astray?

Author's Edit March 2015: Since I wrote this post, God had us walk down an even harder path. On Sept 12, 2013 my husband and I made the decision that we were done going to healing meetings. This post was mostly written from a place where we were going to meetings to get prayer and I thought that's what we were supposed to be doing. But God had other plans and ideas for us. God has shown me many of the things I believed needed even more purifying. I encourage you to read some of my new posts here and here.

The other day Holy Spirit reminded me that when I tell people I am "standing" for my healing, that I need to explain what that actually LOOKS like. Many have their own idea on what that is...Some of which I don't agree with at all.

In this post I'm going to cover a variety of points surrounding the idea of "standing" for healing. I will touch upon what faith or "belief" looks like in a sick person. This is an area where I feel there is a lot of confusion. I will also talk about how the popular "standing" methods are actually a part of the New Thought, Christian Science false religion. Understanding this will likely set a lot of sick people free from these teachings! I will also talk about what unbelief looks like in the sick. Don't worry I don't make it some abstract thing. ;)  Lastly I will touch upon how we have lost grace for the sick in the church. We see lots of grace in street ministries but not inside the 4 walls of the church. I hope this posts brings fresh ideas to those who are in healing ministries and to the sick who are believing God for their promise of healing.

Enjoy!

Faith Is Going to Get Prayer

When I say I am standing for healing, it means I am getting prayer and having hands laid onto me whenever possible. I talk to a lot of sick people and I really want to emphasize how important it is to go and get prayer in Jesus' name and have someone lay their hands on you. We are called to be obedient to the Word.

James 5:14-15 (NKJV)
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. [emphasis mine]

It says to get prayer and prayer only. Today we have to go to people in the church that believe in Jesus as a healer. Back when the Bible was written, healing wasn't a debated topic so any elder would do. Unfortunately today we have to be a bit more choosy when it comes to who we get to pray for us.

When you are obedient to the Word of God and go to get prayer, that is your mustard seed of faith! You don't wait for a feeling! We have already been commanded to GO in the Bible!

This can be witnessed throughout Jesus' ministry too. Remember that Jesus did not heal an entire city when he entered it. A person had to show a mustard seed of faith and come to Him or to one of His Disciples to receive healing. However, even if a person had doubts, Jesus still healed them as long as they came to him. He did not shoo them away and tell them to get more teaching in them like many ministries do today.

Matthew 8:1-3 (NKJV)
1 When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. 2 And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” 3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

Holy Spirit Heals

It is by the power of the Holy Spirit living inside of Christians that allows us to get prayer and receive healing from other Christians. Holy Spirit is a person with an identity. When we pray and lay hands on others, it is Holy Spirit that touches the sick to heal them. It is not our thoughts. It is not our "positive energy". It is not a universal "life force".

When you go and get prayer, don't get too focused on a specific minister praying for the sick. If you get prayer from one person and nothing changes, then keep going. If you get prayer from a popular healing minister and nothing happens, just keep going. I warn you not to get too hung up on a single person or a single event. Why? Because if you go to the "most greatest, spectacular healing evangelist" and nothing happens, you may take that as a sign of God's will for your life. This is not true! Jesus healed everyone who came to Him and he is the same yesterday, today and forever. You keep getting prayer until you see your healing. Persistence is something that I don't feel is being taught much today. Many sick people probably get prayer once or twice and if nothing happens, then they stop. I am encouraging you to keep getting prayer because this is what Jesus told us to do!

Don't get too caught up on a minister's youtube videos, testimonies and other things. Just know that it is Jesus doing the healing through a faithful servant here on earth.

Luke 11:9-10
9 “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

This is a really great healing testimony of a woman that was healed of MS. It was not a quick healing and took many many prayers until the spirit of infirmity broke off of her.

In this woman's healing testimony, it was just some friends at her church that were the ones who eventually broke off the spirit. It didn't take some super, duper awesome healing minister who knew it all or had it all figured out. God will use anyone who makes themselves available and will use them when they step out to pray for the sick in Jesus name. There's a local man who prays for the sick and has seen amazing things, but he has prayed for both my husband and I and we haven't seen anything. So while this man has been the point of contact for Jesus healing in many lives, in ours it has not been. I don't know why it happens like that, but we continue to get prayer until healing takes place.

What Most People Say Is "Standing"

In Christian healing circles, here are some examples of things that sick people are told to do in order to "stand for their healing". Sadly many of these teachings are starting to become more like false New Thought, Christian Science teachings.
  1. Quoting daily "By His Stripes, I am Healed" or telling people to say "I am already Healed!"
  2. Repeating out loud, reading out loud and listening to healing scriptures over and over again to change your situation through your "thoughts" or chemistry.
  3. Setting people on an internal struggle to find out why they "aren't receiving".
  4. Pretending that you are "already healed" when you have actual sickness. Being told that if you focus or complain about symptoms, then that's a lack of faith.
  5. Over-spiritualizing what it means for a person to have "faith"or belief.
  6. Having a bunker mentality where you have to "do it on your own".
  7. Becoming self-focused and doing mind "work" (i.e. eliminating hidden doubts, fears, unbelief).
  8. "Finding the root" source or cause of your sickness. Once that is discovered, then your body can heal.
Many people I know will have a hard time digesting that list above... These are very popular teachings right now! The horrible thing about New Thought is that it very closely tries to resemble some legitimate teachings in Christianity. It even uses verses from the Bible to promote itself! Many of these verses are the same verses that people use to promote similar things in Christian healing circles. Mark 11:24 seems to be a particular popular one for New Thought teachers. If you are the kind of person who likes to read about differing religions to get a better feel of what to watch out for, I highly recommend just doing a google search for New Thought. You will probably be blown away by how much is now being embraced by healing ministries. It honestly scares me!

This is an area that many will disagree with me. However I feel that this is an area that needs exposed. If you quote things and repeat things as a method to "line up your mind" to create a a new reality or to "line up your mind" to see healing in your body, then this is New Thought. Jesus healing is not from our mind. We should only be listening to and reading the Bible to learn more about the nature and goodness of Jesus and the Father. Once our reading becomes about “positive thinking” or convincing ourselves that "we are already healed" and "it's already done, finished", then this is where it is the false teachings of New Thought, mind healing and affirmative prayer.

Christ healing is not affirmative prayer.

I see so many sick people slamming their heads against the wall trying to follow these absurd teachings. Instead of being told to focus on what Jesus did for us on the cross, we are told to focus on our thought processes, how our words affect our mind and we even begin digging into our lives to find some "reason" for being sick. It spreads the ideas that we can overcome sickness by removing negative thoughts and ideas from our minds. These teachings and methods for "standing" are not of Jesus at all and it is part of the New Thought, Christian Science and New Age healing movements.

These ideas have infiltrated its way into Christian healing teachings. All of the teachings listed above breed contempt, frustration, disappointment, discouragement and feelings of unworthiness in the hearts of the sick (and in those praying for the sick too). Many teachings even go as far as to say, that the way you know if you are thinking right is that you are healed. If you aren't healed, then you aren't thinking right and you have to keep doing more "work". This is the most discouraging teaching of them all. I will be bold and say these are ALL lies from Satan himself.

Satan wants you to self-focus instead of looking into the eyes of Jesus and seeing the truth and love of what he accomplished on the cross.

New Thought Teachings Are Pushing People Away From God

Eventually many of the sick who use New Thought methods, get worn down, frustrated and WALK AWAY FROM GOD. In the very least, their view of God becomes distorted and many no longer consider Him good because they feel he is making them jump through so many hoops. God is not causing a person to jump through hoops nor is he causing a person to have a distorted view of himself.

After being victims to these teachings, the sick will even go on to say that healing must not really be for today because they've “done it all” or have "tried it all". Some may even start to say that God doesn't love them anymore or they actually start to spiritualize their sickness.

“God gave me this sickness for a reason. He wants me to help others with it.”
"This was God's perfect plan for my life"
"I guess God doesn't love me because I'm sick and I must not have good faith to get healed."

Again these are all lies from the devil...

From my experience with these teachings, they do not produce much fruit at all. For every person healed, hundreds are left to rot on the side of the road and are told they have to get more teaching in them in order to be healed. There are so many sick people out there who got caught up in these teachings and have given up totally. The "name-it-and-claim-it", "get your thoughts right" message is destroying people. I have found many who promote this are healthy people and/or sick people who have taken credit for their healing. Both of these groups of people, really think it's about them. They think they have it all figured out. They really think it is their positive thoughts, their repeating of scripture and their doctrine that is keeping them or made them healthy. These people are very destructive to the sick whether they mean to be or not! I've just had to walk away from anyone who makes me feel it's my fault for being sick.

Healing has never been about us. It's never been about getting our thoughts right. It's never been about meeting some imaginary criteria in our minds. It's never been about "claiming it" or acting as though it's "already been done". It has always been about what Jesus suffered on the cross for us. If you try to get healed on your own merits, your own works and your own thoughts, it will never happen.

This is GOOD NEWS because you can stop trying to meet some weird criteria in your head. It is about His love and His faithfulness. Jesus destroyed the works of Satan and it is this truth that the devil doesn't want people to know. The devil couldn't care less if you have your thoughts in order because there is no power in this. There is power in the name of Jesus, so he's distracting you with these other weird teachings.

Prayer Isn't To Twist God's Arm

Getting prayer for healing is not about twisting God's arm to move. It's not about trying to meet some criteria for him to release "the goodies". When you get prayer for healing, you can be confident that God hears these prayers because it is His will for you to be made whole.

    1 John 5:14-15 (NKJV)
14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

Jesus promised us healing when he was beaten and died on the cross. God is not in heaven with a clipboard checking off items from a list of requirements a person must meet before healing them.

You already qualify! Lots of sick Christians really need to hear that. YOU ALREADY QUALIFY!

You qualify, not from your own thoughts or merits, but because of the Faithfulness of what Jesus did on the cross! Many of the "standing" methods in today's healing ministries completely forget this when we don't see results. It's like they just want to give sick people homework to get them out of their hair. Unfortunately the "homework" they give people are sending them down a path of false teachings.

Also I feel the need to say that prayer is not a "science". It's about petitioning to God in Jesus' name, so that he may answer your prayers and make way for things. Prayer is not a way of declaring things or to put things "out into the universe". When you use prayer in this manner, it's not about Jesus at all. This way of viewing prayer is a false teaching as seen in New Age, New Thought and Christian Science religions.

Getting Prayer Isn't Always Going to Be Easy or Comfortable

Getting prayer is tough. People say dumb things to you. People will try to give you advice on your lifestyle, diet, supplement regimen and other things. You have to learn to ignore it. It can be hard to find people who believe that it's always God's will to heal. Sometimes it takes money to get to these places. Sometimes we don't have the money, so we have to ask for money to get to these meetings. Often times, if we are really sick, then we need a complete support team to help us to get there. For most sick people, going to these events, it means suffering with symptoms the entire time too. To those who are completely housebound, then I really recommend getting in touch with a local church that will send a prayer team to your house.

When the going gets tough, this is when you really have to believe that God wants you well and that God really is GOOD. This is a place where reading the Bible to understand the true nature of God is vital in order for you to stay in the fight. You have to realize that God loves you with all of his heart whether you are healthy or sick, BUT he is NOT the one who gave you sickness. He did not plan this for your life. God is not the author of the bad that happened in your life. The devil is the one that steals, kills and destroys and he declared war on us the day we were born (and even before that day).

I caution sick people. The worst possible thing you can do is to refuse to get prayer or to stop going to get prayer. When you refuse to get prayer whenever it is available to you then it's a hard truth to hear, but this is unbelief.

If you are flat out refusing to get prayer when someone is offering it, it is probably one of the most dangerous places a sick person can find themselves. If you haven't gotten prayer any time recently, my heart cries out for you. I pray that the Lord will lift you up and remove the hurt or the teachings keeping you away from Him; I pray this in Jesus name. Amen!

You have to get back in the fight. Always be willing to get prayer, whenever it is possible. I'm not saying you have to go to every single meeting in your area. haha Just be mindful of churches who hold healing events and be on the look out for ministers visiting in your area. You can't be passive or waiting for some sign to happen. The sign came when Jesus died for you on the cross.

Unbelief is When You Won't Get Prayer

If there is something keeping you from getting prayer, then yes that is unbelief.

Remember in Jesus' hometown, he was unable to do many miracles there. It stated that the people took offense towards him. They knew him as the carpenter's son and did not understand how he could be preaching like this. His words offended them. His actions offended them. If a person offends you, you aren't going to go over to them and have a pleasant conversation. Typically you are just going to be angry, mad and leave the person alone to go on with whatever it was you were doing beforehand. This is exactly what happened to Jesus and this is starting to happen with a lot of sick in the church.

    Mark 6:5-6
5 Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching. [emphasis mine]

This scripture does not mean that Jesus laid hands on a bunch of people and it did not work. It does not mean that Jesus was "powerless" as some people like to preach it. It means that since they were so offended by his words, only a few came out to receive prayer. Jesus can't lay his hands on the sick if the sick don't show up to have hands laid on them.

This is the same for today. If you don't receive prayer or try to reach out for prayer, then Jesus won't be able to lay his hands on you through another Christian. Many of these "standing" methods are not a pursuit of Jesus at all and we have to be willing to walk away from all of the past failures or hurts we endured to follow what Jesus intended us to do for healing. That means getting ourselves into places where we get prayer.

Some of us may have to forgive ourselves for the time we spent on these teachings. While others may have to forgive the people who have said hurtful things. I know I was at that place. There was a time when I told God I was done getting prayer because I was so angry. Well the Lord did not give up on me. He helped me through that time! He gave me a prophetic word that touched my heart so much that I knew I had to keep going and that he really did have a plan for my life even though I hadn't seen it yet! All of the horrible things others were saying to me at that time was not how God saw me. It was probably the biggest breakthrough I have had through my journey. Prophetic words have been extremely instrumental in my journey! If you are in a really bad place and don't know a good prophetic person in your area, then check out Mary Crews online prophetic ministry. She does online calls about once a month.

The Sick in Jesus' Day Did Not Have it Easy

We also cannot forget what the sick in Jesus' day went through to come to him. They had no cars, no wheelchairs, no modern medicine and no air conditioning. Most traveling was done on foot. The sick had to fight their way to Jesus because of the large crowds that wanted to be touched by Him. There were likely many who turned away because it was too hard and we don't hear about those in the Bible. We only hear about those who dug in and persevered until they were able to make it to Jesus. Don't be the person who turns away! Some of the sickest were on mats and it took other people to drag them to the place where Jesus was preaching and healing. It's ok and Biblically accurate if we need others to help us along our journey. Don't get tricked into thinking it is your mind or thinking that will make you well!

It's important to understand that faith is a decision. It is an action to go and get prayer.  I know it can be discouraging to get prayer and see nothing. I understand all of the frustrations and disappointments. I have been there many many times. I have been in the middle of meetings and have cried because I wasn't healed. I have been on the way home from a meeting, crying out to God because I wasn't healed. I have shed more tears of disappointment than I care to even admit, but here I am. Pushing through all of that and continuing to get prayer has become part of the journey for many sick people in the church. I know it's not how the church is supposed to operate, but that is where we are right now. We have to know that we are in a war against the enemy's army. He is the one that keeps us sick.

We have to get back up and keep heading towards Jesus.

The Grace Message is Being Lost in Healing Ministry

As I said above, some people have been very badly hurt by the church. Many sick people feel rejected, condemned and judged by many teachings and by their fellow Christians who spread these teachings. We can accept God's grace when it comes to salvation, but when it comes to healing, we throw it totally out the window. I think this is because we have embraced New Thought, Christian Science and New Age teachings. More and more we are losing the Gospel message and embracing psychology and philosophy.

“If you doubt at all, then you won't be healed”
"Any negativity will keep healing from flowing"
"You don't have sufficient belief or you would have been healed already"
"God won't answer if you are needs driven"
"Getting too much prayer, shows you are needy"
"If you really knew your identity in Christ, you would be healed already"
"If you really knew your identity in Christ, you wouldn't have gotten sick"
"You need to get it on your own".

Jesus never said anything like that to the sick. Why are we looking at the sick in such a negative way when God is not? Why do we take scripture and then use it to smack people over the heads with it? The church has more Grace and love on the street towards atheists, witches, drug addicts and prostitutes than we do for our Brothers and Sisters in Christ who are sick.

    We judge the sick.
    We blame their faith.
We get offended if they are on disability.
We get offended if they don't listen to our worldly advice.
    We blame their thoughts.
We blame some secret unknown sin that we have no evidence even exists.
We accuse them of having a secret desire to remain sick.
We even think that some are faking to get attention.
Many think if they were sick, then they have it all figured out and would be instantly healed.

It's no wonder I have to rally the sick to get them back into the church for prayer. (heh I have to laugh so I don't cry). We have abused them and the only ones who have had to suffer for this lack of compassion are the sick themselves.

When it comes to healing, the legalistic mindsets we were called out of, kick in full force and we are hurting sick people. We totally lack the compassion and love that Jesus showed.

Many of the methods for "standing" are a way to disqualify the sick in the praying person's eyes. I'm not sure of the motives behind it. These teachings actually discourage the sick to keep getting prayer when that's the VERY thing that God called the sick to do in His Word!

Honestly though I feel very sorry for many of these people because if sickness ever hits them or someone very close to them, they are going to be in for a rude awakening when they go through all of their "methods" and nothing happens...

What it Really Means to "Stand" for Healing

I just want to make it clear, that I do not repeat scriptures in my home. I read the Bible, but not out of a sense of works or obligation. I do it out of wanting to know God. I pray and talk to God all throughout my day. There is never a shut off switch. Even though I try to be hopeful, I know it's not a positive attitude that will get me healed. I don't declare that "I'm healed already." I don't do things that cause me to hurt myself in order to "trick my mind" into thinking I'm healed.

My husband and I get prayer any time it is feasible. Recently we have been getting prayer from some local people, but we have also taken trips. One time we had $50 to our name and we spent it on gas to get to a healing meeting...haha Another time we drove 6 hours to a healing meeting. We have been to several other meetings that were long distance and I think it's something to keep in mind. There are many healing testimonies out there where Holy Spirit sent a person on a trip to get healed. These two incredible healings stand out in my mind and I highly recommend watching the clips. This man had Parkinsons and this man was a quadriplegic.

We were never called to do this on our own. Christianity is not a solo journey. The entire basis of the Gospel message is that you can't be saved nor make it to heaven on your own merits or works. We ALL need Jesus to forgive us of our sins and to reconcile us back to God. Interestingly with healing we actually go completely against the Gospel and we tell the sick to “get it on their own” and we tell them that their thoughts play a large role in their health. Something does not add up here.

Guard yourself against these false teachings which have you locked up in your own mind or are telling you to sit in your house repeating scriptures all day to get healed. This is not the Gospel! Lots of healing ministries cause the sick to become so inner focused, you actually begin to forget that God is pleased with you. This happened to me!

When you are told to look at your doubts, unbelief, thoughts and roots of sickness, it puts you in such a negative horrible place, the devil will come to devour you. Rejoice that this is not the way the Lord wants us to come to him for healing. Praise God for he is Good!...He is the one whose faith is everlasting. He is faithful when we are not. He is gracious when we stumble. Jesus is THE healer. Not our minds.

If you are one of those people who have been hurt and have stopped getting prayer, then just make the decision today to starting getting prayer again. God loves you so much and he is not looking for ways to disqualify you from any of the promises he made to us. Make the decision to step out and find a church in your area that believes in healing and start trusting God again for your healing.

    Blessings to everyone!

Natural Healing Is Wisdom of the World

When we give supplement, dietary and health advice, we are no longer acting as ambassadors of Christ. We stop walking in Kingdom knowledge and in the power of Holy Spirit and instead we are spreading natural knowledge, wisdom of men and associating that information with the Word of God. Yet Jesus never ministered healing to someone by telling them to take an herb, go on a diet or to take a supplement and he had full Kingdom knowledge and power of the Holy Spirit. Unfortunately people have twisted the meanings of certain scriptures to say that God wants people to use herbs and supplements as another method for his healing power. Yet this is not seen anywhere within Jesus' ministry.

Herbal remedies or natural health techniques were not demonstrated by Jesus and we know that He is the perfect image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). Even the Disciples who learned directly from Jesus never used herbs to heal any person in the multitudes. It was ALWAYS through prayer and through demonstrations of power that healing happened.

If a person is able to take supplements or herbs and they feel better, then we can Praise God and be Thankful for it. However (and this is where I disagree with a lot of ministers) we also need to accept that this is worldly knowledge and not spiritual knowledge. Doctors and all medical care is included into this as well. It's human and scientific knowledge that has been learned through the advancement of science, medicine and biological studies. We can be thankful for many great things in our day and age. Thank goodness for running water, personal hygiene, antibiotics and emergency doctor care. All of these save many lives today!

However, you do not need to be a Spirit-filled Christian in order to learn about or learn how to understand the way herbs, supplements or a medicine "work" in the body. It is not revealed to us through God's Spirit, so therefore it is not Kingdom knowledge and has no place in a ministry setting. In a ministry setting you are representing Christ and Christ alone.

Am I saying we should condemn people who are using natural supplements or are currently going to a doctor? No of course not! I've been to over 50 doctors, used countless supplements and went to many naturopathic and natural minded doctors. I still see doctors and use antibiotics and other things when needed.

We show love and grace to everyone:
...those who have been helped by doctors.
...those who have been helped by natural medicine.
...those who were hurt by doctors.
...those who were hurt by naturopaths or natural medicine.
...those who have done both, but are still sick and want healed!

Regardless of which path a person has come from or is currently on, we show them love and grace! When they are ready to accept Jesus as healer and they come for prayer, we show them love and grace! However, within the walls of a church or within a prayer, ministry setting we should never be pushing someone down any other path outside of Jesus.

If someone comes to you and is in immediate need of medical attention, then you can pray for them as you take them to the hospital or call an ambulance.

I'm not an ambassador of doctors. I'm not an ambassador of natural health. I'm an ambassador of Christ and that's what you are going to get from me! If you want natural knowledge or wisdom of men, then you have come to the wrong place. ;) You can get that kind of wisdom anywhere. How many churches can you go into and see a demonstration of Jesus as healer? ...Not many.

We need to be able to look at people with eyes of love no matter what path they have come from. That's why it's so important for the church to stop identifying with all of these other healing methods.

If we accept doctors and natural medicine as being an extension of what Jesus did, then we may have a hard time ministering to those who were either harmed by or not helped by those methods. We may take offense at the person and may not even believe them, let alone have faith and compassion to pray for them. Sadly I have seen what happens when a minister takes offense when a supplement they recommended actually hurt someone!

    1 Corinthians 2:11-14 [Emphasis mine]
For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

My heart cry is that the church doesn't give in to the ways of the world. We need to heed Paul's words in this chapter of 1 Corinthians and put our faith in Jesus for healing.

    1 Corinthians 2:4-5
And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

    Amen!

Healing From God Is Not Mind Medicine or Natural Medicine

I want to discuss a topic that can be a bit tough for some people to hear and many will flat out tell me I'm wrong.

I have noticed that many people make mind medicine and natural medicine an extension of God.

However, I am worried that many of these people (my friends) who believe they are consulting God for healing by taking natural medicine, are not doing what they think they are doing. I worry they are being lead astray and I wish to share my thoughts on "what is" and "what is not" seeking healing from God.

It is Entirely About Humbling Yourself Before God
Some have come to the conclusion that seeking healing from Jesus or God is a combination of mind medicine (thinking your way to better health) or natural medicine (using a diet, supplements and naturopathic ways to better health)....This is not true at all. This kind of thinking is actually based on New Age, mind cure ideals that focus on self and not on God at all.

God can go above and beyond the natural and make a person whole without them having to do some sort of treatment, detox, diet plan or even have a surgery!

For me when I say that I am seeking healing from God it is about humbling myself. Getting down on my knees and telling God I repent for trying to make myself my own doctor and my own god. God, "I messed up and thought I could do this on my own, but I am wrong. There is no cure for my illness and I need Jesus".

    1 Peter 5:6-7
    “God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble."
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Seeking healing from God is saying it isn't about YOU. It isn't about your research. It isn't about your diet plan. It isn't about a detox program. It isn't about taking a specific assortment of vitamins for blocked pathways. It is about completely and totally accepting in your heart and in your mind what Jesus did for you on the cross.

    2 Chronicles 16:9
"For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His."

Many will find it a challenge to get to a place like this because it requires you to really let go of control. It requires you to actually believe that God wants to heal you out of the goodness of His heart and not from something you are doing in your life. It also requires you to give up any pride or ego you have associated with things you are doing in the natural. Understand that this is not something that I can talk you into. It is also not something that happens overnight for most people. It may take a week, 6 months, a year, 5 years, 10 years, 20 years down the road where your desperation is finally great enough that you hand it all over to God. The great news is that God loves a desperate heart and even if we have turned our backs on him for most of our lives, his arms are always open ready to take us back! :)

Seeking healing from God actually requires you to turn away from things you once did. There has to be a change in your heart, which in turn causes a change in your actions. You can't go back to doing what you had done for years and then try to say that this is now your way of seeking God for a healing. There is supposed to be a transformation in your life when you give yourself to Jesus, so this makes no sense and it shows that we really don't understand how God promises healing to us. Below I will talk more about this!

How Does God Promise Healing to Us?
When it comes to seeking healing from God, we have to understand how God gave us healing. It's not because something is natural or because something is found on earth.

It is entirely based on the grace and love God has towards us. He sent us his only son Jesus (who was actually God himself in the flesh), was brutally beaten and died for us on the cross. It was His perfect sacrifice that destroyed the works of Satan and enabled us to reconcile with a clean conscience back to God. Jesus took our sin, sicknesses and fulfilled the Law, so that we may be free!

Jesus died, rose again and he now sits with our Heavenly Father in heaven. After Jesus went away to Heaven, the Lord sent us the precious Holy Spirit in his place. Holy Spirit lives inside of born again, spirit-filled Christians and he is our comforter and our healer. It is through His power that we are able to see healing on earth. Without Jesus none of this would be possible, so that is why I believe natural medicine and mind healing has absolutely nothing to do with seeking healing from God. These things give no Glory and have no bearing on what Jesus did.
If you aren't born again, then this is a great time to make that decision to proclaim Jesus as your Lord and Savior. I found this clip on Youtube from Joyce Meyers and she will lead you into a prayer of salvation. If you listened to the clip and gave your life to Jesus, then Amen and Praise God! Please email me and I will pray for you and invite Holy Spirit into your life! If you need a healing, I will also pray for that as well. :)
So remember that healing being available today is not because "something is natural on earth". The earth is under a curse due to our sin, so not everything on earth is good or a reflection of God's perfect and holy will. I know many people (including my husband) who has injured themselves using something "natural". Satan will do whatever he can to keep a person sick and that includes him getting us to focus on things that will distract us away from truly knowing the Lord. He does not want us to know God and wants us to remain blinded to his lies and in darkness.

    2 Corinthians 4:4-6
In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

    1 Peter 5:8
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Here are some scriptures that talk about Jesus healing people.

    Matthew 8:16-17
When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses."

In this verse, we are told very plainly, that Jesus fulfilled the scripture found in Isaiah. It was Jesus that took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses and believing in Him is how we receive healing in our bodies.

Here's the verses in Isaiah that this is referring to:
    Isaiah 53:4-5.
Surely He has borne our griefs
    And carried our sorrows;
    Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
    Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
    He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.

It is by Jesus stripes (the beatings of his body) that we are healed. We have to get this foundation of what Jesus did in order to understand how God promises healing for us today. It is about our surrendering to, having faith in and following the Lord Jesus Christ along that journey.

Whenever a person says they are believing God for healing, their journey should lead them into prayer in their own home and in churches. There should be a hunger and love for the things of God and for His Word. They should have other believers praying over them in  Jesus name (if possible), commanding the sickness and spirits to leave their bodies. The reality is Jesus did not send people to doctors nor did he tell people to take a supplement in order to get healed. Jesus did not tell a person to look within themselves to be healed either. He was always bringing people's attention away from themselves and onto God. None of them were healed by their works, but instead by their obedience to God. There is a difference between obedience to the Lord and trying to do works to be healed.

The woman with the issue of blood for 12 years had gone to many doctors, spent tons of money and they were unable to make her well and only made her worse. Out of desperation she saw Jesus and pushed her way to him believing that if she touched him, she would be healed. When she touched him, she was indeed instantly healed! Jesus was able to heal this woman in a moment's time! She had exhausted every other thing available to her, but it was going and reaching out to Jesus that made her well. (Mark 5:25-34) :)

Just as people in Jesus' day came to get prayer or get touched by Jesus, we are to do this as well. Since Jesus isn't walking around on earth now, this means it is about a personal relationship and journey with the Lord. When a person is born again, they have been reconciled to God, given the Holy Spirit and their sins have been forgiven. It is with this knowledge and understanding of what Jesus did for us on the cross, that we can begin our journey with the Lord to be healed.

With this understanding, we may also get prayer from other believers to encourage us in our walk with the Lord.

The woman with the issue of blood could have just ignored Jesus that day, but she violated the law in her land, stepped out of her comfort zone and touched Jesus. By surrendering your life to the Lord and being born again and decide to go and get prayer from others, you are demonstrating to God "I believe in your son Jesus for my healing!"

The Bible does in fact tell sick people to get prayer for healing.

    James 5:14-15
"Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up."

This verse pretty much tells us exactly what we need to do in order to seek healing from God.

We are not told to seek after natural supplements nor to do mind medicine practices. None of this can be done  'in Jesus name' because Jesus never displayed this in his life and it is not demonstrated within the Bible.

Having faith in God's healing is about believing in His son Jesus and getting prayer!

You Must Be Willing to Change and Turn Away From the Old
Humbling yourself isn't an easy thing to do especially when it's an area or a community where you have been built up and established in for years. It took me a good 5 months after believing Jesus was a healer to finally give it all up.

Right in the midst of God calling to me, I was neck deep in discovering genetic SNP's for people. I spent every waking moment looking at my 23andme genetic data. I created the Yasko methylation spreadsheet, which got shared on A LOT of websites. I began writing my series on how to use your 23andme raw data. I started to become "popular" in these movements. My blog for the first time started making some adsense money. I was asked to be interviewed by a reporter at Bloomberg for my thoughts on genetic information and chronic illnesses. It was scary turning away from all of this, everything I knew to be comfortable, but the call and love of God in my heart was stronger than continuing to follow what I wanted to do. I had to step out of my comfort zone.

For some people it can also mean giving up a website that funds you financially. I know there are a lot of chronically ill bloggers who make some extra cash with their blogs that solely focus on their sickness and the [natural and conventional] things they are doing to overcome it. Even if you aren't making money, but you've created a website surrounding your sickness (ahem...me), then this is something you will have to go to God about. For me I knew I needed to delete a few articles that were bringing me too much attention and I also needed to change the URL and topic of the blog. Since making all of these changes, I have been at peace about it. :) My blog has now put me in touch with other sick people who are not getting help with natural medicine and are looking for another way.

Lastly, I know from personal experience that many of these natural health communities are rooted in fear. Fear is from the devil and not of God! Some of you may need to turn away from these groups and start anew.

    2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

With time most who are in the natural medicine communities become very judgmental and look down on others who aren't following a specific diet or for instance eat fast food from time to time. There is very little love and compassion in these groups especially towards those who don't agree with your eating or living practices. These groups can become toxic to you and be prepared to leave them while seeking Jesus for healing. I know I had to!

Many will not understand your decisions! I know many told me I was nuts for deleting some of my posts, but these are the types of things you have to be willing to change and turn away from. Turning away is a step of faith.

With Natural Medicine, Who Is Getting the Credit?
This is an area that I think people need to really look within themselves. Whenever you seek healing through natural medicine or mind medicine, who or what in the end will get the glory or the credit?

For years when I was researching treatments and making myself a guinea pig, I thought when I finally got better then I would be able to "help others" by telling them what I discovered! That never happened, but I know I would have promoted some method for years and scoffed at those who said it did not work for them. Natural medicine quickly becomes about self-promotion or promoting a diet, treatment or supplement that you have made your identity.

If the end result of "seeking healing" consists of promoting a diet, supplement or treatment program, then there is no Glory to God in your journey. This is a hard truth for many to hear, but let that settle in your heart and really see what or who it is you are seeking in your healing. I don't believe God is offended if we use supplements, but I do believe his way of healing us is through the sacrifice of his son Jesus!

When I say I am seeking healing through God, it is all about praying for healing and believing in Jesus for a miracle. There will be no glory to me. There will be no glory to doctors. There will be no glory to any supplement, treatment plan or detox program. It will be ALL GLORY TO JESUS!

Healing From God Really Is Supernatural
Seeking healing from God really is a supernatural event. It is not something that has to be done by natural means. None of Jesus' miracles in the Bible could have possibly been done in the natural, so this is great news for those who have been trying things on their own with little to no success! There is hope, but you have to look beyond yourself and what you are doing.

God isn't expecting us nor he is making us suffer for years doing detoxes, taking pills and whatnot in order for us to be healed. A miracle cannot be reasoned out through natural ways.

In the Bible there were many sicknesses that were caused by an evil spirit attaching themselves to a person. There are probably some of us who are sick because of a spirit. There is no amount of natural knowledge or mind medicine that will be able to overcome that. You need the delivering power only found in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of God!

    Luke 13:11
And there was a woman who for eighteen years had had a sickness caused by a spirit; and she was bent double, and could not straighten up at all. 12 When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your sickness.” 13 And He laid His hands on her; and immediately she was made erect again and began glorifying God.

For any of you, you have to let go of the scientific thinking and just accept that we will never be able to understand how it all works or how it all happens. If we could, then believing in Jesus for healing would not be by faith, but it would be by sight and by worldly knowledge.

Jesus is able to heal you in whatever place you are emotionally, physically, spiritually and mentally. Just give your life over to Him and allow him to begin to renew your mind about what you believe of Him and about yourself.  You don't have to have it all figured out to come to God with your troubles and sicknesses. Just ask the Lord.

Watch for the New Age Healing Teachings
Another problem with the natural medicine community is that it is full of new age, occultist and energy healing methods. Christians need to be careful with what we get ourselves involved with because not everything is safe or OK in the spiritual realm. We can easily fall victim to new age healing methods because we think to ourselves, "well since it's natural, it's ok", but this is not true! Many new age healing methods go hand in hand with the natural medicine and it's totally normal to see people talking about it on forums or in FB groups. These methods include yoga, acupuncture, reiki, muscle testing, energy machines, retraining programs, chakra balancing, EFT tapping, crystal healing and soo much more.

When a person takes part in new age healing methods, you may be inviting demons and other unclean spirits to come into your life. Many Christians don't understand why these things are dangerous and this is the reason. It's not about what your intentions are or even about what you think about a practice, it is the fact that these methods are aligning you with false gods and demonic spirits.

Out of my ignorance, I tried energy machines, EFT tapping, muscle testing and other things! I'm simply warning you that these practices have more to them than just some harmless "energy". These practices knowingly or not summon or seek other spirits that are not of God even if they sound scientific.

The bad spirits associated with these therapies can attach themselves to you. They can cause more sickness in your body or they try to influence you in other areas of your life. Demons LOVE to deceive people, so they will do anything in order for you to accept them in your life. As you continue down this path you may find yourself getting sicker and sicker OR the spirit moves and causes new health problems to crop up. Here's the vicious cycle though, as you get sicker from the spirits, you then run back to the new age treatments! You have to break away from those practices and renounce them!

If you have done any New age practices then pray about it. Let the Lord speak to you and see what you need to do. Some people may need delivered from these spirits, so that's why it's good to consult Holy Spirit on this. I've repented for the things I did and I am clean in my conscience about it now. I will never touch any of these therapies ever again.

Reasons Why Many Fall for New Age Healing methods
There are three main reasons why some Christians fall victim to new age teachings.

    1) Most of the time it is out of ignorance. We don't even know that something is new age or we don't realize that it summons spirits outside of God's kingdom. Many people are just looking for something to give them relief for a condition they have in their body. Unfortunately the enemy doesn't care if you made a mistake, he uses opportunities like this to latch on to you.

For further study, I recommend these two things.
This video may help you to get a better understanding of how the New Age is like web.

This article talks specifically about Yoga.
    https://www.cai.org/testimonies/spiritual-deception-yoga

    2) Most of today's churches (Cessationists) do not teach about the spiritual gifts of Holy Spirit, so instead of being able to search and find the real thing, we get caught up in following other spiritualities. The Holy Spirit in doing the will of God gives gifts to each believer as He chooses. Apostle Paul tells us to desire the gifts earnestly, so ask God to show this aspect of Christianity to you.

    For further study
Here's a video of Sid Roth's story of delving into new age before he found Jesus. I'm sad to say that I believe Sid Roth in recent years has gone back into many new age ideals, but his testimony here is very good.
    http://youtu.be/0vRQxvblgFc

    3) Lastly, most in the church don't really understand how healing is available to us today or some simply just do not believe at all. This is where it is good to study your Bible and get involved with other like minded Christians who believe that Jesus is still a healer today.

Medical Treatment While Standing For Your Healing
While you are in the midst of standing for your healing, it is completely acceptable to see doctors, take ongoing prescriptions and supplements if they help you. If it's time for that checkup at the doctor, there is nothing wrong with going! I still go to my cardiologist when he wants to see me and I still go to my eye doctor regularly too. I still take potassium and other random vitamins as I see fit, but this is not Jesus and it is not how the Lord will ultimately heal me.

I am NOT telling anyone to stop seeking medical treatment. I took hydrocortisone while getting prayer for my healing of adrenal insufficiency. God healed me of this condition while taking medication and I was able to come off of it without any side effects! I took the pills so I wouldn't die because this is a serious medical condition. I had to live to fight another day and I don't think that God is offended by things like this.
    • You can be going for healing prayer and also go to doctors at the same time.
    • You can be going to doctors and still seek healing prayer at the same time.
You don't have to be doing one or the other. However, we must remember and understand that doctors ARE NOT GOD. I don't believe that the church should ever be associating themselves with medicine, supplements or any other natural health treatment plans. We are ambassadors of Christ and our call on this earth is to tell people the Good News of Jesus. If we tell someone to take a supplement or to try some treatment, what happens if they are injured by the treatment? How do we rectify that?

The one thing that sick people have to keep in mind is that the devil will try to harm you given any chance at all. He can use a doctor to do it. He can use a medication to do it. I know more people harmed (or dismissed) by doctors than people healed by doctors. This is where my hesitation comes from in offering advice and telling people to go to doctors as a Christian. It is a decision only you can make.

If you are purposely choosing not to believe in God or not pray at all for healing, then this is when a person needs personal ministry. Sometimes the enemy can come into our minds and tell us we aren't worthy of being healed.  Please seek help if this is what is happening to you. I am more than willing to chat with you, so feel free to contact me.

Despite where you have come from and what has happened in the past, Jesus is willing and able to make you well. He can overcome sickness when nothing else in the world can! This is WHY Jesus is such good new and why my focus is always on Him! It's freeing and gives me peace.

God Can Show Us Something In the Natural
If you have a personal relationship with the Lord, then it is entirely possible for him to speak to you about things in your life that you can change. I don't want people to think that I am trying to "put God in a box". I want to open people's eyes up to the idea that God is bigger and better than we could even imagine. He IS NOT limited to natural treatments, diet and thinking positive.

I wanted to share a story of God showing me something in my life that was causing health problems.  It's kind of a weird thing, but I'm completely open and honest with people, so here it goes...haha

For a long time I had a lot of burning and pain in my bladder. It wasn't always a urinary tract infection (UTI) because I wasn't experiencing the right symptoms for those. Sometimes though the burning would develop into a UTI which was so annoying. Whenever the pain came on, I'd pray against it and nothing would happen. It was very frustrating. Sometimes I'd sit in the bathtub because the burning was really painful. It would come and go and I could never figure out why.

Well I had this for years (even before I was born again) and during this time, I realized that a little bit of baking soda in a glass of water would usually give me relief within 20 minutes. I started using this a lot because the pain was terrible.

Well probably about 2 months ago, I went to use the bathroom and while I was peeing, God said. "Dana, you aren't emptying your whole bladder when you use the bathroom." I was dumbfounded. "Really God, I'm not?!" Well of course God was right. I'm not sure why, but I wasn't letting out my full bladder, so small amounts of urine were constantly sitting in my bladder causing pain! I'm happy to report that I haven't had bladder pain since that day and I haven't had to take any baking soda or anything at all.

This is an example of where God can tell you something in the natural to help you out. I just don't think that we can make this a formula of some sort though!

This is why we need to tell people to actually seek JESUS in their healings, so that if the Holy Spirit feels the need to talk to you about something like this, he can. If you tell people to just seek natural medicine, then there is no relationship there at all. It's completely about the supplements and not about Jesus at all.

I'm Settled On Jesus and Jesus Alone
When I say I am seeking healing through Jesus, this means I am not taking supplements or herbs for my healing. I am not going to reiki healers and I'm not getting acupuncture done. In my heart, I have settled that a supernatural healing is the only way it will happen. I am no longer focusing on researching diets, supplements or some other theory. I am no longer trying to take herbs. For 8 years of my life, I went from doctor to doctor; specialist to specialist; naturopath to naturopath. It did not bring me health at all. I probably spent like 30k dollars in a course of a few years, so I can definitely relate to the woman with the issue of blood. All of that time, money and energy was for NOTHING. All I did was make myself my own god, get sicker and have adverse reactions to drugs and supplements. It was terrible.

Nowadays I am reading the Bible and praying to hear from the Holy Spirit more and more! I'm no longer living in guilt and shame and I am excited to see what God has planned for my life. I go to local events whenever possible to be in fellowship with other believers. I get prayer from ministers and others who believe in healing. My husband and I also pray for each other too. Is my health perfect? Nope, not yet. Every day is a battle, but I know that Jesus is Lord and that he will take my sicknesses from me. All I do is just keep chugging along, getting prayer and not give up. Do not let the devil come in and wipe you out. You put on the Armor of God and batten down the hatches if it ever gets to that point.

I recommend reading the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in Daniel 3. King Nebuchadnezzar had set up a gold image and was telling people to worship this idol. Anytime he played his trumpets and flutes, he ordered people to bow down to it. Well Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego wanted nothing to do with this false god because they believed in One true God. The King got so angry he threatened to throw then into the fiery furnace if they did not bow.

This was their response to the King:
“O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.

This is powerful! Many may never come to this point of surrender and trust in their Christian walk. No one can bottle up this level of faith and give it to you. No one can talk you into believing like this. No one can give you a formula or a 9 step program to get you to submit to God like these three men. You have to come to this point on your own and settle in your heart that no matter what happens, that this is where you draw the line in the sand and hold on to God.

I am at this place when it comes to healing. I have no other game plan. I know that Jesus is my healer and I believe he will heal me, but even if it does not happen for some reason, I will not abandon my beliefs and start to look for other ways to gain healing. You can't get to a place like this by faking it or pretending or even reciting scriptures over and over again. You have to be completely, 100% surrendered and sold out for Jesus!

Let's actually believe in what Jesus did instead of trying to find the answers ourselves! Jesus already paid the price for our healing, so let's trust him for it.

    God is NOT in Control

    Author's Edit March 2015:
There are many things in this post that I no longer believe or agree with. I love going back and seeing God humble me. I have decided not to edit the contents of this post because I want to be open and honest with the ways that God has changed me over the past 2.5 years. Please read some more of my newer posts here and here.

This idea is so indoctrinated into American Christianity, that it can be found all throughout Christian music and on many popular Christian web pages and facebook pages. Many of these sites, create and share sayings that imply God kills people and takes good things from us to improve our faith. They say that it's all in His timing and plan.

If something bad happens, we have all heard people say things like:
"Well it must have been their time"
"We don't know the mysteries of God."
"God must have needed another angel in heaven"
"Whatever brings Glory to God, even if it's sickness. Amen!"

Kari Job in "Steady my heart" sings,
    "Each and every moment,
What's good and what gets broken,
Happens just the way that You plan"

When we say things like this, it shows how little we know or understand about our Heavenly Father. It is unbiblical to say that God is sitting up in heaven causing bad things in our lives.

If something bad happened to you, it's not because God made it happen for some larger purpose in your life. When we say things like this to those around us, we inadvertently make God wicked and a God that uses "end justifies the means" to get his point across. The concept that God is in full control of everything that happens, keeps people from reconciling to God because they question his nature. Even though we say he does these things to build faith, many people actually lose their faith in these struggles.

"If God is good, then how did he *let* that happen to me".
"Why did he let me be abused"
"My husband cheated on me, how could God let that happen"

Sadly many Christians actually think God is schizophrenic by letting stuff happen like that, so they have no way to overcome these types of objections.

I counter these ideas by simply stating what the Bible says. We know that the devil is the thief that comes to steal, kill and destroy. Does a thief ask permission before he/she steals something?

In a real world situation, no one would ever say yes to this question. People rob banks, steal purses and take cars completely without asking permission from either the owner or from the authorities. That's the whole part of being "a thief". The dictionary definition says, "one that steals especially stealthily or secretly". This makes perfect sense in the natural world. Thieves disguise themselves and wait until night time or when people are looking the other way to make their move.

However when it comes to spiritual things, many switch their position and say the thief (devil) has to get permission from God to hurt us, give us sickness and even to steal people from our lives. Many can't grasp the concept that the devil could even do this without God's approval. I think what it really comes down to is that we don't like the idea that the devil has the ability to hurt us. To agree with this teaching, it would mean that we are vulnerable and would have to get a better understanding of how we stop the devil's schemes in our lives and in the lives of others. Due to this fear, which is also a tool from the enemy, we take the definition of thief and totally flip it backwards. This whole thought process is a lie and a scheme from the devil to protect himself.
Trust what the Lord says in this area and if you like, trust the dictionary definition too!

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. John 10:10

It's up to us to decide what we do when the thief robs us of our health, joy, love, family and even our relationship with God himself. Will we continue to blame God or will we stand against the attacks of the enemy? God did not make us powerless to the devil, so we need to understand what Jesus did on the cross to see what authority he gave us against the enemy.

Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Ephesians 6:11

    God bless you all!

Welcoming the Sick into the Church

I saw this article today about fibromyalgia where it is now being admitted it is NOT all in your head. The medical community is just figuring this out decades later...

"Fibromyalgia, a painful condition affecting approximately 10 million people in the U.S., **is not imaginary after all**, as some doctors have believed."
This article underlines why the church has to become THE place where sick can go to for healing, comfort and love. We can't be judging them or disqualifying them for taking a disability check or telling them they don't have enough faith. The rest of the world already does a good job at demeaning the sick, so when they come to the church they don't have any patience for it anymore. They will quickly leave if they feel attacked! I have a soft heart for the sick probably because I've been sick practically my whole life to some degree and I know what they feel and I know what they go through. They did not choose to be sick. They did not think their sickness into existence. They were attacked without permission by the enemy and we need to treat them with LOVE, respect, dignity like Jesus did. Amen!

I don't think the church realizes how much the sick are abused on a daily basis. They are told that they are crazy, lazy for not working, a hypochondriac, "hyper vigilant", just stressed, having anxiety or really not sick at all... In reality they are actually sick, but the medical community has no cures or solutions for them, so they are labeled in these derogatory ways. Here's where it gets messed up, normal healthy people think the doctors labels are accurate, so they then treat the sick poorly too. Many who have not been sick in their lives, simply do not understand how messed up the medical system can be!

The sick are looking anywhere for some help! We as believers can step in and be that help! We are letting the new age, energy counterfeit medicines like acupuncture, mind medicine, energy crystals, energy tapping, chakras, yoga and many other treatments to take over where Jesus reigns above all of those ways. Sick people need to know the amazing story of what Jesus did! No expensive treatments required! lol Jesus is the most powerful and most high healer on earth and he paid the price for our healing. :)

The sick need real help, not just a "feel better about your sickness" pep talk. If they want that, they can go to Barnes and Noble and get that in the new age, self help section. Christianity is supposed to be different and I actually think we are bringing down our message with searching for root causes and making it about the person in front of us. It's always been about Jesus and his amazing, willingful sacrifice for us. He knew exactly what he was doing and he died before we were even born, so we could be saved, healed, delivered and set free. That's a pretty sweet deal!

With all of the stuff that has happened to me in my life, I don't want to focus on myself.  Every time I do that, the enemy sweeps in and tries to get me to stay in shame and condemnation. I'd much rather talk about Jesus, what he did and what he thinks of me! I get rather defensive when people want to talk about my past abuses. Instead of trying to tackle issues as if we were psychologists, we need to trust Holy Spirit to guide us and to heal those who have a hurting past.

I want the sick to have a safe haven with the church. We need to tell the sick they are loved by Jesus. We need to tell them that God did not do this to them. We need to tell them what God thinks of sickness! Many are in bondage over this issue because they think God made them sick for some higher purpose to suffer for him... We need to tell them the parasitic nature of sickness from Satan himself. He is the enemy of God, so he looks for anyone to devour and he attaches sickness to people without permission from God.

We have to stop being afraid to admit that some people are more anointed in healing and miracles than others. We don't seem to have this fear when it comes to other spiritual gifts. There are plenty of prophets, evangelists, singers, teachers and seers who willing place that title on themselves, but when it comes to healing, the church is simply terrified to embrace this. [I suspect this is because of the abuses that occurred from some of these "healers" in the past few decades]. Instead of running from power though, we need to embrace the power given to us by Holy Spirit whether that is prophecy, healing, discerning of spirits, speaking in tongues etc. We are given these gifts by the grace of God to use so that we can build up the church and ultimately bring in the lost, sick and hurting. We believers of Christ give them real hope. We believers of Christ give them real life, real family and a real means of being free from the past and being free from sickness. We need to continue to give them the real Jesus!

Maybe what I'm saying is really bold, but this is really what was on my heart today for some reason. This might be a bit preachy and I'm sorry for that. I say all of this out of love and I want the church to be walking in such power that the world can't turn away and ignore us anymore! I feel like those days are coming.

As I was writing this today, I saw John Mellor post a testimony of a woman being healed of fibromyalgia and several other ailments... SO powerful! Thank you John for devoting your life to Christ and for your dedication to praying for the sick. You have been so instrumental in my healing journey! When I was getting beat up by some teachings, I just kept looking to John for encouragement each day. If any of you are not following him on Facebook, I highly recommend you do. Every day you will get wonderful healing testimonies and be encouraged!  :)

Video of her getting prayer- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrnMYAS_log
    Video of testimony afterwards- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcvBhHUu0s4

I was teary eyed as I watched this and as she hugged her husband. I lost it! haha!!. The joy in her eyes after prayer is amazing. Thank you JESUS! AMEN!!!

And I write all of these posts as I am suffering with my own sicknesses. I am losing more vision. I woke up on Friday morning and had a large gray swath of vision, just gone. I prayed against it for a while and about 2 hours later it improved! There is a new blind spot in that eye and it can be scary to lose vision suddenly, but I have been hopeful despite all of the bad that's going on right now in my life. My financial struggles and health problems are not lord. Jesus is Lord and he will heal me and deliver me from all of this. I know it.

Everyone feel free to email me and comment. I love all of your emails. It's just awesome to hear from you all. :)

The Dangers of Doctrine Becoming Our Identity Instead of Jesus

Before I was saved, since I was sick I used to be very involved in the natural health, chronic illness communities. I used to be the one researching theories, coming up with ideas and trying out different treatment options. I knowingly and willingly made myself a guinea pig in hopes to finding something that may work for all of us.

Over the years I began noticing that people would almost immediately invest their personal identity into a diet, supplement regimen, treatment plan or even a doctor. Other followers would jump on the bandwagon and invest their personal identity in it as well.

When someone came to the group and told them they weren't getting better (or in some cases getting worse), instead of the group having compassion and saying  "I'm sorry this didn't work for you", it became about protecting the doctrine. The blame was always thrown to the sick person and all attention was made on what the sick person did not do right.

"Well you must not have done the diet right"
"I bet your veggies weren't organic"
"You probably used the wrong form of B12"

They would throw out catch phrases like.

    "Everyone sees results".
"Sometimes you get worse before you get better".

Others in the groups learned to regurgitate this and the cycle began over and over again. I have been guilty of this.

I'm seeing this same thing in the church when it comes to grace and healing doctrine. Now in this post I'm going to talk solely on healing.

Jesus is a Healer. No Doubt
One thing I want to make clear is that I believe Jesus is a healer. I believe that if Jesus touched you or me right now, we would be healed of all illnesses. POTS, CFS, blindness, lasting effects from a stroke, MS, arthritis, kidney disease and more. This is demonstrated many times throughout the Bible and throughout the ministry and life of Jesus.

As we look at different healing ministries, we can see that each have their own way of ministering healing prayer. I'm not even going to go into the specifics on those ways in this post.

Similar to the health communities, most churches or ministries set out some sort of plan for you to follow when seeking healing through Jesus. You are to believe in it, act on it and then be healed.

After you've tried the plan or done exactly what it calls for, if you are still not healed and you try to seek help, you will find the church in general is NOT very helpful or encouraging. [This has been my experience.] Immediately the sick person is put in a defensive position because what comes afterward is usually an onslaught of attacks of your character and faith.

"Well you can't possibly have done it all".
"You must have some doubts you don't want to admit to".
"Maybe there's some sin in your life that you just won't let go".
"You don't really believe in your heart Jesus is a healer."
"You probably haven't repented for something you've done".

The church believes if the sick wasn't healed by their approved doctrine, then something is wrong with that sick person. You are labeled as broken and then written off.

Being a sick person in the church, especially in a church that believes in healing, it is a tough place to be. People become offended at you, simply because you are sick. They see you with sickness and immediately their personal doctrine of healing is attacked. You don't even have to say anything or even do anything...haha! People just become uncomfortable around you especially if you have limitations that are visible on the outside. If you have an invisible illness, you will just be ignored.

As I read online, many sick people are becoming jaded, bitter and completely giving up on getting prayer. Some have completely given up on Jesus being a healer and or have given up on believing in God!

It hurts me when I see people in this place, but I understand why they have come to that point.

When you get prayer from someone and nothing happens, it can be devastating when your healing is focused on man and on a teaching method. You are at a weak place and are looking for anything to comfort you. Unfortunately in those moments, the enemy is also there waiting to destroy you. Sometimes a misguided friend, minister or person at a church will speak lies to you from the enemy, which may be an attempt to shipwreck your journey with the Lord.

"You must have some secret doubt about healing."
"You're faith is not sufficient for healing"
"You need to read this guy's teaching on healing!"
"Maybe you don't really want to be healed"
"You've made your sickness, your identity. That's the problem!"

If someone has said any of those things to you, I'm sorry that happened! However know that those words spoken to you were not from God.  The enemy can speak to us through other people. He tries to hurt you when you are down and he tries to hurt you when you are making progress too. He just wants to hurt you, period. The enemy will do whatever it takes to get you mad at God and away from seeking a closer relationship with Him!

Sick People Have to Ignore the Mean/Misguided Comments
Sadly the church is not walking in the same love as Jesus. Many people are trying, but we make a lot of mistakes and we say a lot of stupid things to sick people. Many don't believe you can be sick and believe in Jesus as a healer, so they will immediately attack your belief systems. Many don't believe you can be in the will of God for your life and be sick. Many don't believe that God may ask us to walk a journey with Him towards healing, so they say misguided and wrong things that are not true.

I have had my beliefs questioned almost at every healing meeting I've been to and these were from ministers who would deny that they do this to the sick. Who these ministers are in person is very different than what they show online in their videos and in their teachings. The sick must not let these ministers and their followers walk over them like a doormat. Be firm with your beliefs and stand mighty with God. It's important to truly know our identity in Christ and not just know the catchphrases and buzzwords. That way when someone says something dumb to you, you can just laugh it off and move on.

I've even seen people try to boast in the number of people they've seen healed. This only makes the sick person feel even worse because now you are not only telling the sick, something is wrong with them spiritually, you are also boasting.

    "Well I've seen hundreds healed".
"Oh well I've seen several thousand healed"
"I see 90% of sick people healed" (You can usually prove this wrong in a single meeting)

As a sick person seeking healing, you have to learn to ignore these people who are in spiritual pride and to find those who have a balanced view of Jesus Christ as healing. You must find those who are encouraging, loving, kind and compassionate. There are people out there who don't blame the sick, but I admit, it is nearly impossible to find them. My advice is always keep seeking God for healing. Don't ever give up, no matter how long it takes and no matter how many prayers it takes. (Authors Edit: Since writing this post in 2013, I no longer go to meetings and get prayer from people because of the abuse I suffered. In Sept of 2013, the Lord called me out of that rat race and told me to get my eyes off of men and to look directly to Him. We obeyed the Lord in this. My husband and I still pray for each other and we continue to seek the Lord from our house, but we rarely if ever go to meetings).

The Church Is Abusing the Sick and Hurting
We tend to beat up the very people in our church coming for help, so it's no wonder the general public refuse to believe in healing and think it's a bunch of con artists. I have found many exaggerate their testimonies, inflate the number or percentage of people they have seen healed and generally blow things out of proportion to make themselves look good. This is all at the detriment of those who are truly suffering and sick.

The church as a whole says such awful things to sick people. You'll be told to read some guy's book, watch this video, go to this conference, but very rarely will you see people offer love, hope, encouragement or any real path for the sick to continue believing for their healing. We teach revelation and knowledge as a means to be healed instead of faith in Jesus Christ.

In the same way that people can make their health theories, sports or politics part of their identity, many have made their favorite healing ministers with their many "revelations" on healing a part of their identity too. For many people it actually ceases being about trusting Jesus and becomes about preaching some doctrine or revelation at whatever cost, no matter who it hurts. Our walks with the Lord are not a regimen like we see in the natural health communities. It is a faith walk that has risks, unknowns and where we are out of control. That means we won't always have perfect answers or have all the loose ends tied.  It's not a 10 step program. It is about knowing your identity through Christ and building your life around that foundation. It's about learning what it means to surrender our will to the Lord and letting His will become more important than what we want in our lives.

When we treat the sick inappropriately or say hurtful things, it directly affects how the sick perceive their Heavenly Father.

Instead of us representing God as good, loving, faithful and caring, many healing ministries are actually representing God as a jerk who is just waiting for us to meet some magical level of faith or revelation that's required to be healed.

It's important to remember throughout this journey that being healed is not the way we know that God loves us or cares about us. If it requires us being healed to know the love, kindness and goodness of God, then that is an unstable foundation that will likely be tested. We see the love of God that He sent His Son Jesus Christ, who then willing sacrificed and suffered for each of us on the cross.

Jesus is the perfect example of how we are to live our lives and minister to others. He was humble, bold, fiercely passionate and yet gentle towards the hurting and rejected. The church are to act as ambassadors of Christ, speaking to HIS people and pleading with them on God's behalf to be reconciled to Him. Whenever our own motives start getting in the way, it becomes more about "doctrine" instead of about Jesus and what he did. Then is when we get into big trouble and can lead people to destructive teachings.

When we tell sick, hurting people inaccurate healing theologies, we are in fact pushing people away from God and setting them up to be disappointed.

Most sick people aren't solid in their relationship with God, so ministers should be building them up in that instead of questioning those areas. I've read countless posts on Facebook and on blogs of people who at one time were seeking prayer for healing and gave up after friends, ministers and people in their church told them how effortless and easy it was to receive healing, only to be disappointed time and time again. Their hope and faith were completely stolen from them and many went to just give up on healing altogether because it was a harder journey than they were prepared to walk.

A Healing Ministry Is About Compassion for the Sick
Praying for healing has never been about us or our ministry. It is about the love of God and wanting to set people free and God wanting to see His children healed. God does not heal because our doctrine is right or because the sick person has"perfect doctrine". We need to take the burden off the sick people. Jesus being a healer is supposed to be good news. Not bad news!

I feel we have placed such a huge burden on sick people and have forgotten about the love and compassion that Jesus had for all. We seem to remember Jesus flipped over tables and yelled at the Pharisees, but we forget that he is also the same person who would go out of his way to help others.  Jesus was looking to rest and pray after hearing John the Baptist was killed, but when he saw the sick, brokenhearted people coming towards him, he was moved with compassion! Instead he went out to help those people in need and even stayed to feed them. This is where the miracle of feeding 5000 took place. Matthew 14

We have so much hurt and frustration in our own hearts about the disappointments we have seen in life, that we can't clearly see to comfort or understand others when they are hurting.

    Colossians 3:1-4

1 Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. 3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

Let's just be more careful with the way we say things to each other. An unbalanced view of healing can be extremely detrimental to the sick and when these teachings become part of our identity, not only do we hurt ourselves, but also every single sick person we come in contact with.

We have to keep praying and keep an open ear for the Holy Spirit to guide us as we do. Sometimes the Holy Spirit may tell us things we don't want to hear. That was certainly the case with my husband and I when the Lord told us to "wait" for our healing. Perhaps some of the frustration that ministers and sick people have is because we refuse to accept what the Lord is telling us?

If you've been seeking prayer for healing, please comment!! Those who have been rejected by others, please email me. I want to keep in touch with you to encourage you to keep moving forward. Take care. God Bless!

Updated 2016- My beliefs have changed drastically over the last few years, so I decided to clean this article up. Thank you Jesus that you opened my eyes to the unstable foundations I had built my house upon and have now corrected my path.

    Trust Jesus As A Healer

    *VIDEO* Seeking Healing Through Christ

I made a new video on my "health" channel talking about what it is I have been doing for the past year. This is the first time I have gone completely public with this unless you are of course a blog reader. I felt it was time to talk about it and deal with the naysayers as they come.

Believing that Jesus is a healer today of our physical needs is extremely controversial. I know that most churches preach against this and come up with very peculiar reasons why they don't believe in it.

If you just read the Bible and never step foot inside one of the churches, I don't think most people would be able to come up with these teachings on their own. Scriptures are taken out of context and aren't applied right. Many churches would fail a reading comprehension test. hehe

The church today should look like what is written in the book of Acts after the Holy Spirit fell upon them.  All of this is available to us today because, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8

Here's the link just in case the embedding breaks. That seems to happen A LOT with blogger.

    Update on my vision problems

In the middle of October I made a post about how I started having some issues with my vision. I wanted to give an update on what is going on. I actually don't know all that much more because I am unable to go to the doctors about the problem. At first I thought maybe I had MEWDS or a temporary White Dot syndrome, but now I'm not so sure. We lost our insurance because we are simply too poor to afford it. Both my husband and I are both chronically ill, we receive no disability, compensation or any income coming in from the government or state, so we are between a rock and a hard place. We are too broke to really afford anything at the moment.

In my left eye I still have the same blind spot that I discussed before. It doesn't seem like it's gotten much bigger. The rest of my vision is doing ok in that eye. I get a lot of weird blue dots, flashes, lights and strangeness at all hours of the day, nonstop in both eyes. At night, I have a major light show going on. It's actually distracting at times...

Since I made that post, I am now having issues with my right eye as well. My natural blind spot seems to be enlarged and I have vision loss starting to arc up the side from the blind spot. I am missing some peripheral vision in my right eye as well ever since what I thought was a migraine. Maybe it wasn't...I don't know. In addition to that, I also have scattered blind spots and missing lines of vision too. As far as being able to see, I am doing pretty good! I do catch the glimpses of weird text or spots at certain times though. The blind spots are not dark and completely see through if that makes any sense? My brain is filling in the missing vision with my other eye. The brain is truly amazing! None of the spots are in my center vision so it has not disrupted reading or seeing faces.

I continue to pray for my eyes and seek healing in that area too. Jesus healed blind people in the Bible, so he's done this before and is the same today. I have faith and believe in his healing powers today. Just as I look to Jesus as my Savior, I also look to him as my healer.
    Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.
    Take care everyone.
